A very busy month with lots of new music!
Favorite Album That Came Out This Month: “Glory” by Perfume Genius
An excellent new album from much beloved Perfume Genius. After some excellent singles (two of my favorites on the record) previewing an Aldous Harding feature, we finally got the full album on 3/28/25 w Matador. If you have been following me for a while, you’ll know I saw PG last September, and they rocked my world. Gave me a lot of appreciation for the whole team that is PG including Greg Uhlmann and Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy on guitar, Hadreas’ longtime partner Alan Wyfells on piano, and several others. And of course the epic genius that is Mike Hadreas. All of the various sounds come together so well on this album, and I think it’s one I’ll like more and more with each listen.

Favorite Album That Didn’t Come Out This Month: “Stories of the New West” by The Kent 3
An awesome Seattle band recommendation by Danny! This album isn’t on streaming, or at least not on Spotify, so I’ve had to listen to it on Youtube. Released in 1997, it’s a sweet blend of sounds that remind me of Lou Reed and Sonic Youth. Garage/surf rock at its absolute finest. Lesser known so go give it a listen and you will absolutely be rewarded.

Favorite Live Performance I Saw This Month: Ovlov at The Chapel
Ovlov has been a fav band of mine for a while, and their epic 2021 album “Buds” has to be one of my favorite rock albums of all time. I hadn’t heard of them touring in a while, so I was stoked to see that they were playing one night at the Chapel this month, which they sold out pretty quickly. While they may have been coming out of retirement?, they were tight as ever and absolutely shredded. Live. Love. Rock and roll.
Favorite Book I Read This Month: If You’re A Girl, revised and expanded edition by Ann Rower
Because I was super busy this month, I didn’t get to read too much. I read Hydra Medusa by Brandon Shimoda and started Revolutionary Letters by Diane di Prima, but didn’t love either that much. I’m only about a third of the way through If You’re A Girl, but am enjoying it so far. Couldn’t help but pick up another Semiotext(e) book last time I was at Womb Books shopping for my dad’s birthday. Smh. Text me or add me on Goodreads if you want to see my thoughts upon completion.
