Happy belated Halloween! Pictured below is Bella’s and my costume as Liam and Noel Gallagher. This month was a bit dry tbh. The highest score for an album was a 7/10, and there weren’t too many releases I was stoked about. That said, I’m very excited for the November releases coming up hehe. Anyways, let’s dig in.
Favorite Album That Came Out This Month: “CHROMAKOPIA” by Tyler the Creator
As I mentioned above, I actually wasn’t super excited about any of the releases this month, and a few received 7/10’s. Overall, though, I think Tyler’s new album “CHROMAKOPIA” has to be my favorite. While I didn’t love it on first listen cuz I thought some of it was corny lol, it’s grown on me a lot and I actually do appreciate the earnest songwriting. I’ve been a Tyler fan for a while (as most folks are), and it’s definitely cool to see his evolution as a thinker and songwriter and person. My first reaction to the album was kinda missing the energy of his (more problematic) youthful stuff, but I think he does retain some of it here. The features are also great.

Favorite Album That Didn’t Come Out This Month: “Music Box” by Post Office Winter
Post Office Winter released their sophomore album in 2022, and the song “WAKE” was my favorite song from 2022 (one of my fav songs of all time), but I had given the album just a 7/10. I went back to the album this month and was blown away. I truly think it is a perfect album for me. So beautifully sweet and pure and heartbreaking and tender. I love how the absurdity of some of the lyrics still makes so much emotional sense, and I think the lyrics and rhythms have taught me a lot as a poet as well. Want to gatekeep this, but I won’t. Love this album w my whole heart.

Fav Live Performance I Saw This Month: Hello Mary at Brick & Mortar
Okay this month Bella and I had a lot of shit get in the way of our concert going lol. Besides, Hello Mary (which I went to alone), we also had tickets to Hiss Golden Messenger at Sweetwater (courtesy of my dad), Blue Zero at Eli’s Mile High Club, and Mdou Moctar at the Regency Ballroom. I was stoked for the Blue Zero record release show (local shoegaze band at local punk bar), but they had three openers and Bella got really sleepy so we left at the second opener lol. Then I got really sick and missed the Mdou Moctar show (Bella went tho and was really disappointed by the Regency’s sound/mixing). Anyways, the Hello Mary show was really great. Their recent album “Emita Ox” was my fav album released last month (September), and their performance of it blew me away. I had enough space to dance and made friends with all the people around me who were just as into it as I was.
Fav Book I Read This Month: Playboy by Constance Debré
Okay we all know I love Semiotext(e) by now and also lesbian literature lol. I’d been wanting to read this book ever since Semiotext(e) released the English translation this April (the first in Debré’s renowned trilogy). And it was just as good as I was expecting! I feel like the apathetic woman narrator is a popular trope rn in trending literature, and I’ve seen it fail a lot in my opinion (hated My Year of Rest and Relaxation), but I thought it felt so true and real here (probably has to do w queerness). I also love the choppy sentences, which feel similar to how I think. Can’t wait to read the next two.
